Watermouth Cove Cottages Situated on the beautiful North Devon coast Watermouth Cove Cottages are a group of eight pretty self catering holiday cottages. Built in the 17th century and once the coaching houses and stables of Watermouth Castle, they were converted to holiday accommodation in the 1970's. Watermouth Cove Cottages are situated beside the castle grounds, just 200 yards from the harbour and South West coastal path. The cottages, set in a wooded valley and surrounded by lovely Devon countryside are an haven for a wide range of wild life including Squirrels, Foxes and many birds such as Woodpeckers, Jays, Goldfinches, Nuthatches as well as the usual Robins and Blue Tits. Buzzards regularly soar over the cottages and Egrets are regular visitors to the Castle pond.
Watermouth Cove is a rural seaside idyll within a few minutes drive of beautiful Berrynarbor and the beach resorts of Combe Martin and Ilfracombe with a wide choice of pubs, restaurants and local attractions.

The beautiful rocky coves are great for walking the dog, rock pools, interesting geological rock formations and scenic rugged cliffs. Local coves and beaches to explore include Watermouth Cove, Broad Sands, Combe Martin, Newberry, Hele Bay and Wild Pear beaches.
Exmoor National Park Watermouth Cove and Combe Martin are on the doorstep of the Exmoor national park with its spectacular sweeping moorland summits, deep wooded valleys, high sea cliffs and sheltered rocky bays. The Exmoor National park covers 267 square miles and has a remarkable variety of flora and fauna, it is famous for its wild ponies, Red Deer and birds of prey. The moor remains as wild and beautiful as in the days of R.D. Blackmore's Lorna Doone and with its extensive network of paths and bridle ways offers an ideal day out for tourists, walkers and horse riders.
Lundy Island is just off the North Devon coast and can be visited by a boat trip on the MS Oldenburg from historic Ilfracombe harbour. Lund-ey which is Norse for Puffin Island is a place of outstanding natural beauty and a nature reserve for seals, seabirds and all types of marine life. Spectacular wildlife, coastal cruises and fishing boats trips depart daily from Ilfracombe. For those interested in diving, the rugged North Devon coast from Foreland to Hartland Point has numerous recorded ship wrecks with 137 of these around Lundy. In 1906 the battle ship HMS Montagu ran aground on Lundy and its wreck lies off the south west tip of the island.
Further Afield From the North Devon coast it is just over an hour's drive to resorts such as Bude, Minehead, Dunster and Torquay and less than two hours drive to Cornwall's Eden Project and The Lost Gardens of Heligan. The Dartmoor National park with its rugged granite tors, historic Postbridge, Uncle Tom Cobley's Widecombe in the Moor and Okehampton castle are just over an hour away Historic Exeter with its large cathedral, shopping centres, museum etc can be visited by rail on the beautiful Tarka line from Barnstaple making for an interesting day out.
Photography and Painting The North Devon coast is recognised by UNESCO and UK government as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). The North Devon coast offers a wide range of scenery from spectacular rugged coast, high cliffs, large estuaries, long golden beaches, to deep valleys, fast streams, wild moorland, old cottages and villages. The area is rich in its variety of animal, bird and plant life. The changing seasons bring about a continuous change to the natural colours, moods and light intensity not to mention spectacular sunsets and rises. The area is a photographers and artists dream at any time of year so don't forget your equipment.
The Winter Months The winter months are mild in North Devon and it is an ideal place to take a relaxing break. A walk along a quiet beach or on the moors with the dog followed by an evening in an old country pub with its warm log fire makes for a wonderful change to the bustle of city life.
The Sky at Night The dark North Devon winter nights offer the astronomers amongst us some of the clearest views of the stars and planets in the UK. The hills around Combe Martin are high, and with virtually no light pollution make great vantage points from which to observe the night sky. Holdstone Down is 1146 ft (approx 350 mtr) high with easy to access to the summit.
